I experiment with mixed media, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, fine art prints, photography, book binding, sculpture, and design – including fabrics and furniture. My work explores museums; flora and fauna; the city, gardens, and natural landscape. women photographers; portraits; creates abstract art using photographs as beginning point; as well as people encountering their world.“Each of my fine art compositions be it on photography papers, canvas, art papers, fabric– silk, cotton, film, or sculpture employ efforts to build imagery strength. I play with color within light and sometimes the absence of color (black and white) to explore shape and form. Viewers, of my art, are encouraged to let their emotions respond to the exhibited images.”My artist interests have been stirred by my mother’s “world class” orchid arranging, corsage, and garden club art, beginning over 70 years ago. At the turn of the century,I purchased a digital camera. My first digital camera, purchased in early 2000, was an early Panasonic. Later, I purchased the Canon Rebel since it was replaced with a newer lighter model. My major interest is botanicals. My mother grew orchids. Beginning in the 1950s our house was filled with vandas, phalaenopsis, and dendrobiums as well as the latest new cross recently discovered species. Recording people, landscapes, and flowers on film (8mm), and photos have been a part of my life for nearly 60 years. As a Boy Scout, I recorded my journey to a World Jamboree in the Philippines on 8mm film. In the early 1970s I purchased an early Leica and photographed Washington, D.C. area where I lived including the zoo, monuments, family, and friends. In February 2004, Joshua Taylor, nature, garden, and landscape photographer, offered a Photographing Orchids course through the Washington Corcoran School of Art. We met at the US Botanical Gardens early Saturday mornings for 6 weeks. Dodging the gardeners watering and arranging, we were allowed to photograph the Gardens before the public arrived. After retiring to Venice, Florida I enrolled in art courses at Selby Gardens, Ringling College of Art and Design. Art Center Sarasota, Venice Art Center, and Englewood Art Center.Much of my works grows out of digital photography. Of note are my botanicals, many of which are printed on fabric-mainly silk. Painted photographs are now an important part of my current work. An award-winning work presents 5 views of a single Florida landscape. My museum series is a focus of my work. In addition, a series of painted and drawn works have been created based on woman photographers’ work. A Venice Art Center award-winning colleague is constructed from over 100 “skybox view” photographs of New York City’s E. 94th Street and 2nd Avenue intersection during construction of the Metro. I also received awards for works - Best in Show by Pasco County Arts Council, in the spring of 2020, from my museum series, and a work from my garden series, 2021.I seek to stretch the limits of artistic expression. I have created new art techniques, including Universal All-purpose Art (UAA), Shroud-o-types, as well as elaborating on painted photograph methods, children and botanical art books, and printing as well as painting on fabric. In my Catalogue Raisonne are included a wide range of artist expressions.
